Steven Quatela, M.D., Ph.D.
Current Position:
PGY-1 Resident in Pediatrics, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, New York.
Graduate: 2009, Molecular Pharmacology and Signal Transduction
William Randolph Hearst Foundation Fellow
(BS Biology, with area of concentration in Biochemistry, Haverford College)
Faculty Mentor: Mark Philips, M.D.
After many long nights (and early mornings!) in the confocal microscope room, Steve completed his Ph.D. in the Philips Lab studying how the phosphorylation of K-Ras can trigger cellular apoptosis. Steve is looking forward to making kids smile during his pediatric residency and, one day, hopes to have a fulfilling life as a pediatric oncologist.
Thesis
PKC regulates a Farnesyl-Electrostatic Switch on K-Ras that Promotes its Association with Bcl-XL on Mitochondria and Induces Apoptosis
Research Interests
Cell Signaling; Oncogenesis
